Donations (coming soon)
Pentagon Rotary Club Projects!
Outside of volunteering our time and skills, many of The Crystal City- Pentagon Rotary Club’s efforts require funds and we hold several fundraising events each year to support our programs. Donations go towards our efforts to eradicate polio, enable youth exchange programs, fund scholarships for high school seniors, and projects in Honduras.
THE OUTREACH PROGRAM
Feeding the local community is one of our community projects. Our club participates in The Outreach Program which brings groups together to pack food for the hungry in the community. This is a very fun event and helps the local community at the same time. Numerous meals are packed for Arlington Food Assistance Center.
We support an Interact club at Wakefield High School. This year-round program includes Science Fairs, Career Day, Interact Club activities, and other events that help instill kindness and volunteerism in the students. We also award annual college scholarships to High School seniors that demonstrate personal commitments to “Service Above Self”.
We’ve sponsored several Peace Fellows who attend one of five Rotary Peace Institutes for a two-year fully funded master’s degree in Peace. One of our latest Peace Fellows graduated from the International Christian University in Tokyo and later attended Harvard University. We’re always in the process of looking for other applicants to sponsor.
Every year the rotary members looks to support youth exchange students from all over the world so that children can get an experience that will positively shape their lives. We’ve had exchange students from France, Brazil, India, Turkey, and Spain.
The Rotary has supported projects in Suriname, Uganda, and Swaziland. Currently, the club is supporting projects to supply water and sanitation infrastructure to the Honduras Independence Bilingual School in Quimistán, Santa Barbara, Honduras, and to provide computers to the Adja Penda Ba school in Senegal, Africa. Further, the club provides support to ShelterBox–A Rotary project that prepares and provides a box of life-saving equipment to maintain a family of 10 for 6 months.
END POLIO NOW
We support Polio Eradication efforts through PolioPlus, now a joint program of Rotary, The United Nations World Health Organization, The US Center for Disease Control, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Our members have participated in Immunization Days in Polio-affected countries. The infrastructure developed by this joint Rotary International program can be a roadmap for worldwide Covid-19 vaccination.
